Connecting Kids to Christ and Christian Community

Children are very important to us at Jerome United Methodist Church. We pray that the children will be rooted and established in God’s love. Our Nursery, staffed by Kristi Smith, is open each Sunday Morning and for many other events. All staff and children’s teachers and shepherds are required to have fingerprinting background checks and we abide by the Safe Sanctuaries Policy of the United Methodist Conference, assuring there are at least two teachers in each classroom. We love to teach the children about God’s love and desire to make JUMC a safe, fun, place for them.

Our hope is to help children know how awesome it is to have a personal relationship with the all-knowing, all-loving, all-powerful one and only true God through Jesus Christ. We want to help develop a love for God, a love for Others, and a love for His Word.

Sunday Morning Connections

Nursery

Kristi Smith is our Nursery staff person.  Children 0 – 3 years old are cared for during all Sunday morning services and Sunday School.

Sunday School

(All ages: preschool, elementary, middle school, high school, and adult @ 9:45)
Sunday School is Bible centered Learning and Fun. Kids enjoy crafts, Bible games, Bible stories, and Interaction with their peers. We have a variety of Adult classes offered at the same time but parents are always welcome to attend with their child.

Children’s Worship

Children attend Adult Worship with their parents and then are invited to leave with a teacher part of the way through the service. Younger Children will experience “Circle time”, music, and a Bible story. Older children will participate in Bible Exploration.  Parents should pick up their children in the Education Wing after the service.

Acolytes

Children are invited to “Bring in Christ’s Light” by lighting the altar candles at the beginning of our 8:30 worship service.  Please call the church office, 614-873-8851 to find out more about this program.

An open gym event with some added bonuses!!!

In addition to a traditional open gym format, there will be several stations available for children to work on crafts, puzzles, play dough, coloring, etc. Snacks will be supplied for the children, and coffee will be available for the adults.  (Donations will be accepted to help cover the costs of snacks and the purchase of future equipment.)

Cradle Roll

Children who are 0-3 years old and attend JUMC are enrolled in the Cradle Roll Ministry.  Parents and children receive timely tips that will give a Biblical perspective on parenting, along with a few surprises for the little ones.

Bible Sunday

Children in 3rd grade or older are given their very own Bible from Jerome U.M.C.  Bible Sunday is in January each year and is the starter week for a Sunday afternoon Beginner’s Bible Study for 3rd – 5th Graders.

SUNDAYS 5:30 – 7:00PM

Previously called “Beginner’s Bible Study,” – WILD 1s is a new ministry designed for Pre-Teens.  We will begin the year with a 10 week Bible study for 3rd – 5th grade students on January 9. The Bible study is open to all students in grades 3 - 5. Beginner Bible study is where kids use their Bibles to develop a lifetime pattern for spiritual growth. In addition to Bible study, we promise laughter, fun, pizza, and recreation. The group will also plan monthly activities for the rest of the year.    WILD 1s is a great place to bring a friend.  Sign up in the office or contact Donna Montgomery at donna.jumc@gmail.com

 Vacation Bible School

VBS is held in the evening for a week in August.  It is a great time of laughter and community where children and adults grow in their walk with Christ.  Kids preschool through 5th grade participate in music, crafts, games, snacks, stories, and recreation and you never know what you will find in the lobby of the church – maybe goats and crowing roosters!

Children’s Library Addition

We have purchased a set of books called, The New Learning About Sex, A Series for the Christian Family.  We have the first 3 in the series that can be signed out by contacting Donna Montgomery.  The 3 books that we have are: Why Boys & Girls Are Different by Carol Greene for ages 3 – 5, Where Do Babies Come From? by Ruth Hummel for ages 6 – 8, and How You Are Changing by Jane Graver for ages 8 – 11. Many parents have talked about the difficulties they have had in approaching this topic and we hope this will give some aid and help include a Christian perspective that they won’t get from school.
